Steve McFeely is a Principal in the Newburyport office of Northeast Planning Associates. With nearly 25 years of experience in the financial industry, Steve oversees investment strategy, portfolio management and market analysis, as well as providing client
communications and investment consulting. His extensive background and experience in both institutional and retail investment management brings our clients an enhanced level of analytical depth and customization to their portfolios.
Before joining our practice, Steve spent several years as Director of Investment Management and Research at a top ranked
private wealth management advisory firm, where he was responsible for the strategy and management of the firm’s $3.2
billion investment portfolio. Steve also brings with him extensive institutional experience as a Portfolio Manager for
Guggenheim Investments, a Lead Investment Strategist for Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), and
various roles at Vanguard Funds. Steve’s broad experience includes the development and implementation of mutual funds,
ETFs and one of the first alternative investment strategies available to retail investors.
Steve received a B.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Business Administration from George
Mason University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) Charterholder. The CFA® designation is a globally
recognized professional designation granted by the CFA Institute and attests to a charterholder’s success in a rigorous and
comprehensive study program in the field of investment management and research analysis. Candidates are required to
pass three levels of exams covering areas such as accounting, economics, ethics, portfolio management, and security
Steve currently resides in Herndon,VA with his wife Jen and two children. Steve and his family plan to relocate to the
Newburyport area in the future, when appropriate for his family. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and
as a soccer Dad. Steve’s hobbies include sailing, fishing, golf and anything that involves getting outside with his family.
